Week 7
This week was so far one of the best weeks this semester academically, as well as being a Student Ambassador. F
Next week I will have 3 Mid-Term Exams and I don't know how I will do, but I hope it goes well. This week I had my welcome desk shift on Tuesday, had a rough Organic Chemistry Lab on Wednesday and finally on Thursday I got to go with some of the Ambassadors as well as the Student Life Coordinator to Cleveland for Ohio Propel "The Annual Collegiate Leadership Summit". The first day that we arrived we ate at a burger place that was so dark and only had a couple of lights, which annoyed me but at least the food was good. We walked around the city at night and it was really nice, however very cold. After that we went back to the hotel and we wanted to go swimming but I was feeling like going to the Gym; because of how much I ate that day.
The next day we went to Cleveland State University, where the event was held. The place was very big, organized and looked very colorful. At first a young Palestinian Pre-Med Student at CSU did a speech and I was so lucky to get to know her afterwards; because she is from the same country as I am, knows Arabic and she is going to Med School. After that Senator Sherrod Brown did a small speech about childhood poverty and then they also had the Vice President of Government and Community Relations at University Hospitals do a speech, along with the Dean of the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University and the Americorps VISTA , as well as the Executive Director of Pathways Community HUB Institute.
My favorite speech was however held by Matthew Desmond, a Sociology Professor from Princeton University. He was talking about some of the issues that he inspected in Childhood Poverty in Wisconsin. A lot of people started crying during his speech, because it was very realistic and very true. The summary of the Event was basically to raise awareness of Food Equity, Childhood Poverty and to come up with ways to change the system in the US and fight this problem. Also, they are emphasizing that Gen Z students (AKA our generation) is the generation that is now responsible to come up with ideas to end this national problem.
After the Event, we went to the Cleveland sign, took a couple of pictures and then drove to UCBA!
